Michele is a product of North Carolina’s public schools. She is a proud UNC-Chapel Hill graduate. As a nurse, Michele has cared for families in some of the most rural counties in the U.S. and the poorest communities in Central and South America.
​
During the last decade, she has taught high schoolers civics, history, science, and English in parent-led micro-schools. Micro schools are a “mid-point” between traditional schooling and homeschooling.
As Superintendent, Michele's background in service and teaching will be crucial to returning our schools to places of safety and academic excellence that will restore NC's educational promise to every family.

Public schools should be the gateway to the American Dream, and that's why North Carolina promises all children a quality education. If we fulfill that promise, we can make North Carolina schools a shining example for the country to follow.

But DC politicians and lobbyists have outsized influence over how students are taught and disciplined in our state. If we keep relying on these top-down directives, our schools will become even more dangerous, and our literacy crisis will become a poverty epidemic.

It's time to erect a firewall between DC, lobbyists, and North Carolina schools. We can empower schools to use the best local solutions for teaching core studies like reading, math, and science. We should free schools from following safety dictates from special interest groups that tie principals' and teachers' hands while endangering our children.
